At last, an Android Tablet that WILL make phone calls!

This is the family size Tablet which is also a phone; more concrete details about the Android-based Vega touchscreen tablet have emerged, with T-Mobile set to sell the gadget into Blighty later this year.

First seen in November last year, Vega will probably go head-to-head with O2’s web-connected Joggler – reviewed here  - as a "family hub tablet".

The gadget’s 15in touchscreen display makes the Joggler’s 7in display look positively puny, though the two do share some functionality similarities. Vega, much like the Joggler, offers one-touch access to a household calendar, can be accessed remotely over a wireless connection and be set to automatically send SMS alerts to mobile phones.

Does Little Jimmy always forget football practice on Monday nights? Not any more he won’t, or at least that’s the idea of Vega.

The gadget will ship with a T-Mobile SIM card, so you can make hands-free calls at the touch of a button. Vega is also set-up for 1080p video playback, Wi-Fi web browsing, on-demand TV, video chat, games and FM radio.

Vega is powered by a Nvidia Tegra 250 mobile web processor and, as previously reported is expected to run version 2.0 of Google’s Android OS.

T-Mobile will release Vega’s price closer to the launch date.
