US based provider of mobile content PowerByHand has acquired German mobile content portal Mobile2Day.

Despite its name, Mobile2Day isn't in English; it's German from start to finish - and of course, it's a shop. But it does have news, and a lot of downloads, claiming 150 million "visitors each month" (presumably, this means 150 million "hits") downloading from its library of 20,000 or more applications.

Former rival, PowerByHand claims to have more than 60,000 applications with an additional 6,000 Symbian applications and localised cross-platform content for the European market. This takes the number of PowerByHand outlets to six or more, with the other portals including:

PalmGear.com, PocketGear.com, Smartphone.net and eReader.com

Full text of the announcement at PowerByHand's web pages quotes Ryan Wuerch, CEO: "Approximately 30% of the visitors to our sites are from outside of the United States. This acquisition will provide those customers with localised sites and mobile content to better meet their needs."
