How to sabotage consumer goods via wireless

by Staff Writer | posted on 15 May 2007

The idea is that simple. Disable your product at the factory. Set a wireless device into the package which "activates" the goods inside. Only when it's bought and paid for do you turn the dud product into a working one.

Exactly how it works, is not spelled out in the NXP Semiconductors announcement, but they give assurances that it works.

First "protected" products will be DVD movies, with a joint venture between NXP Semiconductors, the independent company founded by Philips, and Kestrel Wireless
