Patent BoardTM Ranking Published in Wall Street Journal Shows E Ink Ahead of Giants Like Hitachi, Sharp, 3M, Fujitsu and Kodak

CAMBRIDGE - March 5, 2007 - E Ink Corporation, the leading provider of electronic paper display technology, is considered among the most innovative companies in the electronics and instruments industry, according to The Patent Board Patent Scorecard recently published in The Wall Street Journal. The Patent Scorecard is published by The Patent Board, a provider of tools and metrics for patent analysis and intellectual property investing. The Patent Scorecard uses the Patent Board's industry-standard data and proprietary analytical tools to assess patent value, and ranks companies worldwide in 17 industry sectors.

"E Ink has built an early and broad patent position in electronic paper, flexible displays, and printed electronics; all are expected to be explosively growing markets in the next decade," said Russ Wilcox, president and CEO of E Ink. "Our scientists and engineers are innovating rapidly and their work ranks with the best of the global giants in the field of electronic devices."

"From a patent quality perspective, E Ink has a very strong and influential portfolio," said Eric Gillespie, Patent Board COO. "In addition to ranking third within our electronics scorecard, E Ink sits at the number one spot for industry impact and is 26th overall in our Patent Board 500TM. The 500 looks globally across industries and ranks the top 500 technology innovators by technology strength. The 'industry impact' metric measures how influential a company's patent portfolio is on the development of technologies in other companies. Overall, E Ink's patent portfolio is of high quality."

E Ink's patent portfolio provides the company with broad protection for its innovative electrophoretic display technology. The company's issued patents cover topics including methods for manufacturing of the electronic ink material, processes for assembling finished displays, and techniques for integrating electronic paper displays in products.

A growing number of inventors have been inspired by the applications of E Ink's technology. In fact, more than 1,000 patents have been granted and are pending for inventions based on E Ink's electronic paper displays.

Outside of electronic paper, many of E Ink's patents have also had broad applicability in fields like organic electronics and flexible semiconductor manufacturing. E Ink has recently been awarded claims on techniques to print semiconductor particle films, pattern organic semiconductors and produce organic dielectric films at low temperatures.

With 107 U.S. patents issued and over 100 additional patent applications pending, E Ink anticipates the pace of new patent issuance to continue. The company has also received and applied for international equivalents of many of its U.S. patents.
