Symbian boss borrows the Windows vision for smartphones

The Smartphone Show has failed, perhaps, to excite much outside interest - but it's not for want of ambition - Symbian CEO Nigel Clifford has decided that smartphones are the new PCs.
In a keynote, Clifford said: "25 years ago Bill Gates had a vision of a computer on every desk and in every home – and no one will dispute that the PC has been incredibly successful. Today that vision is renewed – we aim to have a smartphone in every pocket, a smartphone that will liberate us from our desks and cables, a smartphone that will allow us to do what we want, when we want, and where we want."
He has been in the job since June 2005, and clearly feels he has achieved authority.
Clifford stated that a smartphone revolution is well underway and among his forecasts were that:
