BlueCore technology selected for innovative Bluetooth handsfree car mirror

CSR reflects on its latest Bluetooth design-win  - Cambridge, UK - 7 March, 2006 - CSR plc (LSE: CSR.L) the world leader in Bluetooth connectivity, today announced that the new range of Sungjin Techwin Bluetooth hands-free car kits contain CSR's BlueCore3-Multimedia (BC3-MM) technology.

The kits connect with Bluetooth-enabled phones within a 10-metre range and are controlled by an innovative digital rear view mirror.  Sungjin Techwin's choice to use BC3-MM to provide Bluetooth handsfree telephony in the car will ensure it connects to any Bluetooth enabled mobile phone due to CSR's extensive interoperability pre-testing.  Both kits (MHF-R220BT and MHF-R330BT) are available now - with the MHF-R330BT featuring incorporated parking sensors.

The rear view mirror control unit, which is powered from the cigarette lighter socket, features a 12-digit caller ID display with single push button control of all call features and loudspeaker settings.  The incoming phone number is announced through the unit's inbuilt speaker and amplifier, which achieves superior sound quality with little or no distortion.  CSR's Kalimba DSP suppresses cabin noise and echo using CSR's Clear Voice Capture (CVC) technology.

Sungjin Techwin's decision to use CSR's BC3-MM with on-chip software is recognition of the cost saving and quality advantages CSR brings to its partners.  BC3-MM's in-built Kalimba DSP requires no further external processor for audio processing saving money on the overall bill of materials.  In addition, incorporated CVC technology enhances voice quality during calls.  The DSP is also more efficient in audio processing achieving power consumption levels similar to that of Bluetooth headsets without integrated echo and noise suppression.

The acquisition of Clarity Technologies in March 2005 brought CVC technology to CSR's Bluetooth portfolio.  CVC's noise suppression algorithm separates the user's voice from the unwanted noise in the environment.  The echo suppression system similarly removes all unwanted echoes allowing designers to position microphones and speakers closely together.  CVC is widely used in mono and stereo headsets allowing for close coexistence of both microphone and speaker with no feedback.

Kyae Kwong Lee, President of Sungjin Techwin commented, "Our new Bluetooth car kits were developed using the best Bluetooth technology and the highest quality components. CSR's Bluetooth silicon and software incorporate the highest sound quality and their support offers us access to their expertise in designing wireless systems for the automotive environment.  The decision to bring CSR on board as a partner was an easy one."

Anthony Murray, Automotive Marketing Manager for CSR commented, "High voice quality during calls is difficult to achieve in a noisy environment like a car, however end users demand high quality voice signals without paying a premium.  CSR offers its partners cost effective and world class echo and noise suppression technology incorporated into BlueCore, its leading Bluetooth silicon."

About CSR

<1/>CSR plc is the leading global provider of Bluetooth technology and has developed expertise in other single-chip wireless communication standards such as Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11). CSR offers developed hardware/software solutions for Bluetooth based around BlueCore, a fully integrated 2.4 GHz radio, baseband and microcontroller.

CSR has now launched its fifth generation BlueCore suite and is in volume manufacture of its fourth generation BlueCore devices. BlueCore4 supports the Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) standard, which was ratified at the end of 2004. BlueCore4 remains the only EDR silicon to be shipping in volume today. In November 2004 CSR launched UniFi, the first single chip 802.11a/b/g embedded solution specifically targeting the mobile phone and consumer electronics markets.

BlueCore features in over 50 per cent of all Bluetooth devices shipped and over 60 per cent of all qualified Bluetooth enabled products and modules listed on the Bluetooth website with industry leaders including Nokia, Dell, Panasonic, Sharp, Motorola, IBM, Apple, NEC, Toshiba, RIM and Sony using BlueCore devices in their range of Bluetooth products.

In March 2005, CSR acquired Clarity Technologies Inc., for its Clear Voice Capture (CVC) technology that enhances the audio performance of any voice-based product or system. Applications for CVC include wireless headsets, handsets and automotive hands free systems.

In August 2005, CSR completed the acquisition of UbiNetics' software business, providing a strong R&D team to accelerate its existing software development in Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and UWB. The UbiNetics team gives CSR the capacity to extend its offering to mobile handset customers.

CSR has its headquarters and offices in Cambridge, UK, and offices in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, India, France, Denmark, Sweden and both Texas and Detroit in the USA.
