Gmail, Yahoo; whatever! - it's Symbian phone mail, OK?
by Sniffer | posted on 28 January 2006
So the excellent Jim Liddle has "reviewed" a mobile email application. It works on Symbian phones like the Nokia Series 60, and it's "amazing software, and I would recommend you download it," he says.
The software is called Gmail Mobile, he says. That, if you're an expert, suggests it works on Google mail, right? And indeed, as the main review (?) says (and I quote it here completely) - "Access your Gmail messages from your mobile at http://m.gmail.com".
I tested that. It works. It's even good, because it's a nice short URL, and if you've ever tried typing URLs in on a mobile, you'll love them for that.
Definitely Gmail! Except... it tells you where to download it. That looks awfully like a Yahoo site!
And if you want to know what it is, have a look at the how-to before downloading; and the how it works page. Not Google at all. Definitely Yahoo! instead.
So - two separate things! One: mobile Gmail, which is at the new google mail site http://m.gmail.com - and two: Yahoo Go, an excellent application for Symbian phones. All clear now?
