Cool Bluetooth shades from Motorola get thumbs up review
by Staff Writer | posted on 07 November 2005
Motorola generated some scepticism when it decided to go "high fashion" for its latest RAZRWire Bluetooth earpiece, with a joint development with sports sunglasses maker Oakley. Your reporter is no fashion victim, and when they first appeared, produced a rather scathing analysis - an analysis which doesn't seem to be shared by other observers.
In particular, there's an enthusiastic review from Hardware Zone, which has got behind the shades: "The RAZRWIRE is just as good as any other Bluetooth earpiece/headset in the market [and] where it stands out is its eyewear design concept that looks very natural on any user - unlike other standard Bluetooth devices."
The review is a geek review, not a fashion one, but if they didn't go so far as to hire an attractive model, the way NewsWireless has done, they did try clipping the Bluetooth module to some other Oakley shades.
The result is that "the Bluetooth module does not fit well with other Oakley designs" - so, presumably, the idea is that when your shades go out of fashion, you get a new Bluetooth module to go with the new ones.
Do you want to be seen wearing the current set? Perhaps. Here's what the fashion correspondent of the Chicago Sun-Times had to say: ...also in the no-no category are mirrored shades: men are the ones who need to go out and revamp their order. "They may well be stuck in the Oakley days gone by," said Carolyn Brundage of the trend spotting Web site www.FashionistaInc.com
Note that these aren't mirrored. And it has to be said, by this loyal employee, that the guy wearing the new designs looks incredibly cool, and not like a sad geek at all...
