Bluetooth music headsets - still no microphones as iPod market outpaces VoIP usage
posted on 23 June 2005
High quality stereo headsets are required by both MP3 joggers, and Skype talkers. Both are looking to escape the cable tangle. The difference is simple: Skype users want a microphone, too.
Logitech has promised to enter the Bluetooth headset market next month; it will offer a headset without microphone. Ray Weikel, director of product marketing at Logitech's Audio Business unit was quoted: "No more untangling those earbuds when you pull your iPod out of the bag, or managing the cords while trying to enjoy your music. We believe our wireless headphones will be truly liberating for iPod owners."
Bluetooth headsets with microphones are, still, rare. Ordinary hands-free Bluetooth earpieces for mobile phones work well enough for the "must have" user and those who want full audio of the sort that Skype can offer, will have to wait as the market evolves.
