Here's what Microsoft said Bill Gates did today for Windows Mobile:

Today, in his keynote at the Microsoft Mobile and Embedded Devices Conference 2005 in Las Vegas, Bill Gates announced the release to market of Windows Mobile 5.0 - the new version of Windows Mobile software.

Windows Mobile 5.0:  Windows Mobile 5.0 helps industry partners deliver even more customised devices and solutions that provide their customers with the most advance mobile experience spanning from productivity to multimedia scenarios.  This new software offers:

Improved Customisation with features like enhanced support for 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, one-handed device navigation with soft-keys and support for QWERTY keyboards that enables development of a wider range of converged devices & services (ex: video telephony, push-to-talk).
 Increased Productivity with features like updated Microsoft Office applications, including new PowerPoint Mobile, Excel Mobile, and Word Mobile, advanced support for persistent memory storage, new security enhancements and Pocket MSN access for the creation of devices and solutions to assist mobile information workers with efficient data management.

Integrated Multimedia with features like integrated PlaysForSure technology in Windows Media Player 10 Mobile, new picture & video application and extended storage capabilities through support for hard drives and USB 2.0 that empowers industry partners to advance their specific media business models and provide customers with a powerful, personalised multimedia experience.

In addition,  Microsoft also announced Windows Embedded Shared Source Bluetooth Technology - a source code toolkit to bring development of Bluetooth applications to market faster!

 Windows Embedded Delivers Source Tools for Bluetooth Technology: With Bluetooth technology gaining significant traction in the wireless industry, Microsoft is integrating with partners to develop the 'Windows Embedded Source Tools for Bluetooth Technology.'

Based on the Microsoft Shared Source Initiative, this managed code library brings all Bluetooth code and APIs from Windows Mobile and Windows CE into one place making it possible to develop solutions in minutes rather than hours. Additionally this innovative technology enables device makers and ISVs to create a customised Bluetooth solution for Windows CE or Windows Mobile. With this new toolkit, developers can now take back valuable hours and develop Bluetooth applications through only 3 lines of code!!!
