Palm Computing has finally smelled the burning toast and is rushing to deal with lost customers who have switched to RIM Blackberry devices in order to get - and reply to - wireless email.

Palm hasn't even announced it: but its wireless rival to the RIM Blackberry has already started selling in New York, according to InfoWorld. Palm won't even answer questions about the existence of the product, aimed specifically at American users; but it has been test marketing the i705 in New York, in CompUSA stores. Shoppers say that the device isn't as good as the Blackberry, if all you want is email on the move. The Blackberry will work wherever you are in the US; while the Palm needs to be set up for different geographical areas. However, InfoWorld reports that the Palm is better featured for people who want other functions than just email.
