Thought for the night: Why would a programmer write good code?
by Guy Kewney | posted on 11 March 2002
There is little -if any - incentive for a corporate programmer to write good code.
If he's fool enough to actually produce something that is generic enough to be used beyond his own project, he will be pestered with support and coding requests from other parts of the outfit. They won't contribute towards his cost or the objectives he has been set, but are quite happy to slag him off if the component falls below their idea in any way.
