Non-voice mobile traffic is where the profit will be - Analysys
by Guy Kewney | posted on 24 March 2002
Ring tones and message texting has saved mobile companies from negative revenue growth in the last year, according to The Observer, previewing an Analysys report due out tomorrow (Monday).
The report expects this sort of traffic to increase, reports Jamie Doward, quoting Analysys as saying mobile phone revenues in West Europe "will total €135bn in 2007, of which 37 per cent will come from non-voice services."
If the Analysys survey covers non-conventional mobile data traffic over, say, WiFi hotspots then The Observer doesn't mention this. However, Doward does suggest that "mobile email will be the most important messaging service" for business users.
Analysys itself provides very little detail of its reports on its site, but will put up an description of its scope in due course.
