Cordless phones start looking to WiFi WLAN technology
by Guy Kewney | posted on 05 May 2002
As the network show, Networld+Interop starts this week, WiFi fans will have a new trend to study - telephony - says WECA Chairman, Dennis Eaton.
The Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance has eleven new members; and Eaton thinks they represent a trend. It may look a little tenuous to the outsider ...
"These new members represent an expansion of WECA's membership by adding silicon providers, a cordless PC component, Networking components, and wireless LAN equipment providers," says today's announcement. "These new additions add two new categories that include providers of cordless telephone technology and companies that focus on the integration of wireless LAN and wireless wide area networks."
"It is gratifying to see WECA continue to add members to its traditional membership categories," said WECA chairman Dennis Eaton. "New types of companies are joining WECA, which signals that the industry is changing. These newer types of companies include organizations that focus on cordless telephone technology and companies that offer solutions to bridge wireless LAN and wireless WAN technologies communications—a convergence trend that seems to be centered around Wi-Fi. This is truly a very exciting time," added Eaton.
