It's a boat. Also, the world's biggest Bluetooth network

"Own a home in 100 countries," says the sales blurb for the ship, The Residensea - a block of flats which just happens to be one of the biggest cruise ships in the world. And also happens to be the biggest Bluetooth LAN on the planet, says Red-M.
Red-M, bluetooth LAN pioneer, has supplied "the world's largest single-site public wireless network to The World of ResidenSea. Yes, it really is a ship.
The Red-M network is, of course, based on Bluetooth wireless technology, and covers 27,500 square meters. It is based on Red-M's Genos(tm) wirelessware. It comprises a central Genos server and 250 Red-M access points deployed around the ship.
The choice was made because of "the flexibility to broaden our network without having to invest in further infrastructure, should we wish to do so in the future" said Maria Lewing, IT Director of ResidenSea.
Simon Gawne, vice-president and co-founder of Red-M found himself saying, with a straight face, that "The World is an ideal place to roll out this type of wireless solution" - which is likely to lead to cries of "No sher, shitlock" and other ironic outbursts. We sympathise; it's a stupid name for a boat.
