Megabeam to announce new WiFi hot-spot deal ...
by Guy Kewney | posted on 04 November 2002
Only a week after announcing new WiFi hot-spots at eleven European airports, the UK's highest-profile WISP is due to reveal a megadeal with an unnamed organisation which will be hosting its access points.
Last week's announcement was of access at Brussels, Liverpool John Lennon, London City, Oslo Gardermoen, Milan Malpensa, Rome Ciampino, Turin and Venice airports. This week's announcement, due Wednesday according to reliable sources, will extend the network.
What Megabeam hasn't yet revealed, is what it will be charging for access. Its main UK rival is BT OpenZone, which is unashamedly pricing its access at the top of the learning curve, around £80 per month. Ryan Jarvis, CEO, has told NewsWireless Net that he expects to announce Megabeam prices of "around that level, maybe a little lower" when Megabeam officially goes commercial.
We're expecting pricing of over £50 a month.
The company has also announced roaming agreements with Aptilo Networks and Mikom. These are the deals which give Megabeam access points at Copenhagen and Istanbul airports. Munich airport can be accessed by Megabeam customers, under a separate agreement.
