Almost worth a trip to the NEC; Sennheiser is showing its business headsets for mobile users at the Comms Channel Expo from Wednesday 2 - 3 April this week.

The news means serious competition, at last, for the clear market leader, Plantronics. Sennheiser headphones, microphones and wireless systems are well known in audio circles, making the bulk of the "radio mic" devices used in seminars and on TV, as well as some of the best-regarded home hifi headphones, both wired and wireless.

And the company can also claim that 180 of the world leading airlines, including BA, Lufthansa, Air France and Quantas, protect the hearing of their pilots by using Sennheiser Aviation headsets.

Well this technology is coming to the office, under a deal with William Demant which has resulted in Sennheiser Communications, a new offshoot company which could be described as "a newcomer with a proven track record and decades of experience." At least, that's how the company sees it.

The range was launched at CeBIT and 20 models will be shown at the NEC this week.

Sennheiser Communications A/S, founded on 1 January 2003, is a joint venture between Danish company William Demant Holding A/S and German company Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG.
