Mitac phone and NEC e606 - twins?

Microsoft actually has samples of the new Mitac Mio SmartPhone, and showed one around its closed "Mobius" seminar in Disneyland this week. We thought it looked familiar ...

The other picture below shows the light coloured Mitac Mio - top - and the dark coloured e606 below.

The e606 is the standard 3G phone provided by Hutchison 3G's "Three" service. The Mitac is a plain ordinary tri-band 2G phone.

In use, they couldn't be more different; the Mitac is a Microsoft "Windows Powered" Smartphone 2002 design, while the NEC model has its own operating system and quirky user interface. And the key differentiating feature of course, is video.

We can't show the video on the Three phone, because the photo was taken in France, where the Hutchison service doesn't work. The phone turns into an ordinary mmo2 2G phone - sadly, with no roaming enabled on this model.

But the similarity in the design is beyond uncanny, with even the same design for the hinges of the clamshell lid.
